Welcome By President
As I humbly take on the role of the 8th President of KOSCA, I am filled with profound gratitude and a deep sense of responsibility. Succeeding seven distinguished leaders. Since our inception in 2008, I am keenly aware of the legacy that I am entrusted to uphold and enrich.
Our collective journey over the past 15 years is a testament to our solid commitment to criminology, marked by significant contributions to education and research. As we move forward, our shared Korean heritage remains a cornerstone of our identity. This unique identity is a source of pride and a foundation for our future endeavors.
Over the next two years, my primary aim is to amplify KOSCA’s influence within the global field of criminology. I plan to showcase the exceptional achievements of Korean criminologists worldwide. This plan is supported by five strategic initiatives that embody our fundamental values of innovation and a deep sense of pride in our Korean heritage.
Global Communication: In an effort to expand our reach, we are transitioning our newsletter to English. This change signifies a new stage in our dedication to disseminating our research and insights worldwide.
Engagement and Dialogue: Leveraging social media and webinars, we are committed to stimulating in depth discussions and building a more cohesive community in criminology.
International Collaboration: Our International Liaison Department will actively promote study tours and exchanges with Korean criminology institutions. This initiative aims to foster meaningful academic exchanges and collaborative opportunities.
Student Empowerment: Recognizing students’ crucial role in criminology, we are dedicated to increasing their engagement. Our approach includes innovative promotional activities, scholarship programs, and a comprehensive mentoring system to support their academic growth.
Networking and Development: The KOSCA annual summer conference will be a vibrant hub for networking, professional growth, and relaxation. This event is designed to strengthen the sense of community among our members, providing a valuable forum for exchange and development.
The dedication and expertise of our executive team, reminiscent of the unparalleled teamwork of the Avengers, are pivotal in bringing these initiatives to fruition. However, the heart of KOSCA lies in the active participation and support of you, our members. Your commitment to our mission is the driving force behind our success.
As we embark on this journey together, I am confident that our collaborative efforts will lead to groundbreaking advancements in criminology through education, research, and international cooperation.
Your dedication and support are invaluable in this endeavor. I look forward to working closely with each of you, as we foster a dynamic and prosperous future for KOSCA together. Thank you for your continued commitment and trust. Together, we will forge a path of excellence and impact in criminology.
Kyung-Shick Choi, Ph.D.
